From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning "Sideways", set in Hawaii, The Descendants movie 2011 is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family's land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries. I loved this film, but Alexander Payne's other film "Citizen Ruth" with Laura Dern was slightly better...

although i've enjoyed some of his movies ... i didnt see what all the rave was about ... disappointed actually. i dont think a tearful closing scene deserved such praise as it did. i was surprised he was even nominated.

Your opinion, I appreciate and respect it, however, I could not disagree more. I have been in a very similar situation 20 years ago and George's performance here triggered so many emotions as if it were yesterday, I am not exaggerating.

Wow, I am actually lost for words, which is not something I am used too. Quite simply the most beautifully prolific movie, I have ever and will ever, have the privilege of watching. Thank you to all involved from start to finish.

George,Shailene, Amara and Nick, without sounding too condescending (as I am not an actor, a friend or relative), you should be so proud of what you have done here, your individual and collective performances were hauntingly surreal. I am sure I speak on behalf of all who saw the Descendants when I say you have truly touched the hearts of many in ways you will never know. This will be celebrated as a pure classic in the years to come as the rolling stone gathers moss.
