Indigenous broadcasting has undergone something of a worldwide revolution in recent years. In New Zealand, Maori TV is at the forefront of a new wave of aboriginal pride.
Although 15% of New Zealand's population is Maori, only a small proportion speak the language. "Maori television evolved out of a need to help develop the language", explains presenter Julian Wilcox. "We have a huge responsibility". The channel's big ambition is to change people's perception that Maori language programming can attract a prime time audience. As Wilcox states: "They are New Zealand stories as much as Maori stories so why shouldn't they be in prime time?" But others question if the channel should receive so much public funding.

My parents came from Greece 3 decades ago in order to advance with their PhD's as marine biologists. From the very day I was born I already know this was the right land for me to live, love and prosper. We always had contact with Maori workers and they would always present some aspects of their culture. Now as an Anthropology student, I can't wait for an opportunity to learn the languages of our brothers and true countrymen! Tēnā tātou katoa!

im a New Zealander, I think that the Maori language should live on as it is part of who we are(btw i dont speak and have no intention of learning the language) all i ask is that the Maori will understand what we are are all Kiwis and stop with the anti European BS, how can we progress as a nation when half of us are worried about our seabed, ask yourselves is this were we wanna be? we can be strong but we are too obsessed with petty bullshit

@0414724 As the records show ,murderers ,rapists and pedophiles were bought here from the prisons of England, a stategic plan to dissolve a race and dominate what they had, diseased blankets as gifts , intent is revealed in time with hidden records
