Felix Mendelssohn Barthody's exquisite miniture piece for solo piano is imbued with delicacy, elegance, poem and charm.

My trip to Venice in October 2006 was a memorable personal experience that helped me shape this beloved piece. This boat song, a barcarolle of tender grace, gently rocks with the gondola in the meandering waterways. It survives a brief windy turbulence toward the end and gently drifts away in the far distance of the Grand Cannel...

The title "Lieder ohne Worte" (German for "songs without words") was first used by his sister Fanny Mendelssohn, herself an accomplished composer who wrote many pieces borrowing the namesake style developed by her brother.

Felix gave this piece the name Venezianisches Gondellied (Venetian Gondola Song), which is one of the three pieces he composed in his lifetime with this title.

  • I absolutely this. There is no such thing as "too slow" or "too fast" - it is played how it is played.

  • i really like your tempo, a lot of people play it much too fast and it looses the feeling of traveling by gondola in Greece. Great work!

  • Super slow............. But u still have mistakes, I think u can do better!

  • @Kocochocolate It's only 2 pages. LOL Anyone can remember it. (maybe not everyone)

  • It's extremely bad ass that u can play this without sheets

  • honestly i didn't like ur playin man..sorry ..u can do it better

  • You did way better than a lot of other people! I love the tempo and your trills were excellent, just it's too perfectly standardized to express the emotion hidden in this song. You still did a great job though.

  • still as the venetian night?thanks. nice

  • yes slow! why not? very nice.

  • I really like the temp you're playing this!! I don't like the song as much when its played faster. Nice job!!
