To be fair, they've come a long way. NOW, when I plug in a device for the first time, WIndows searches for drivers for 10 minutes, fails, then asks me if I want to search for a solution as to WHY it failed. Then after 2 minutes, it also finds nothing.
PROGRESS.

As a software developer (and maybe engineers too?) my heart sinks for them when stuff like this happens. Demo'ing incomplete software is nerve-racking. Gotta demo something on Thursday. Gulp.

he should have typed c:\con\con in the command prompt and sped up the process.

@patilsaurabhr Well maybe it's time to buy some new computer. 2 years of at least 8h/day of using vista/w7 and not a single blue screen.
-
@patilsaurabhr I've never had a bsod in vista or windows 7, and believe you me I use my computer A LOT!
-
You know what? blue screen is still hell of problem... even on windows 7
-
The moment that defined "Plug & Pray".

@LordTigerScar This should be about correct:
"You just plug it in. It's gonna say 'hey, I see a new device!' and it's gonna load in the appropriate drivers. You'll notice that this scanner will - whoa!"
*crash*
"Moving right along.... -"
"That must be, eh, that must be why we're not shipping Windows 98 yet!"
