  • The problem is that, while your distance is incredible, you need to compensate for your hangtime. No Human being that I know of can run 69 yards in 4.78 seconds, which means the Punt Returner already has covered some ground, making him a little harder to stop, which might very well lead to an under 40 yard net punt.

  • Thank you for your comment. A couple of things that need to be taken into consideration is the snap to kick time and the distance behind the line of scrimmage. If one second is added to the hangtime and 10 yards are subtracted from the distance, then things would look a litte different. 59 yards in 5.78 seconds generates smaller net average. Or wishful thinking.

  • Out of curiosity, is that you in the video?

  • Yes, that's me in the video.

  • btw, would you have any advice for a punter trying to increase his hangtime and distance?

  • One thing I am still working on is flexibility. Imagine your leg as a pendulum. The further away your foot is from the vertex(hip), the more foot speed you have at the point of impact. If you notice when I kick the ball, my kicking leg tucks in and my knee bends as i finish through. I am still working on my flexability not just in the hamstrings but in my quads and groin. The other thing to increase hangtime is to push your whole body through the kick. Keep your shoulders forward and up.

  • @neothi 4.78 second hangtime is pretty good as far as I've ever been told.

  • Arent you on the Dallas Cowboys now? LOL

  • what kind of leg training do u do? cuz i'm trying to become a punter too. please help lol.

  • @03skelly03 Ok I see. Did you play college football? And have you heard back from any NFL teams?

  • I didnt have a tough time punting (getting the ball in the air). The hardest part was being consistant with turning the ball over and distance. It wasn't until I sat down with a professional (filip filipovic) that i learned how to put the mechanics together (hold, steps, drop...). He showed me how to practice correclty. It took a year of practicing about 4-6 hours a week for me to correct my bad habits. It's all about learning the correct mechanics and not always strength. I'm 6ft 155lbs.
