I was watching this on a stream earlier, funny thing. The Stream Crashed AS SOON as Rainbow said Derpy, and it fixed itself as the crowd of Ponies where chanting 'Applejack!'

You shoulda seen the amount of people going ballistic in the chat... it was hilarious

Derpy was originally an animation error, in other words an accident. Now she is canon, and her thing is that she always causes disaster. I like the way the writers were thinking on this one, that she's personified by accidents, not that she's mentally disabled or anything.
