ANTONIO VIVALDI (1678-1741)

Sonata for violin and basso continuo RV14 Op. 2 No. 3

1. Preludio: Andante

*Originally written as duets for violin and cello, the Opus 2 sonatas were instead published as violin sonatas, perhaps becuase the publisher believed this would be more profitable. Despite being published as volin sonatas in name, the music itself remained unchanged. This is why the bass line is highly active, and often travels into the upper registers.

Performed by Elizabeth Wallfisch, violin
Richard Tunnicliffe, cello
