During the late twenties, Arthur Rubinstein heard Vladimir Horowitz play for the first time. This is what Rubinstein wrote in his memoirs about that recital and Horowitz performance of the Liszt- Busoni Paganini Etude. "I shall never forget the two Paganini-:Liszt etudes, the E flat and E major ones. There was more than sheer brilliance and technique; there was an easy elegance-the magic that defies description." I hesitate to add my two cents to this description, but for me, this is THE performance of this work.

  • This is really great. Sorry about the loss of your videos! By the way, you have one too many "n" in Paganini.

  • "Paganini " has been corrected. Thank you !!

  • Horowitz is a pianistic genius!!!Great master of the piano!!!

  • Surely one of the greatest displays of piano playing ever recorded. Rubenstein was absolutely right - magic that defies description. One can only wonder what Liszt himself would have thought...

  • This is unbelievably great.

  • @lovesGenet Horowitz could of just walked into the white house and dropped his trousers and dropped a fat turd on the keys of that piano on national television and I would still respect him sincerely as a artist in his early days and in his old age.

  • I forgot that he had scales & such light octaves like that. I wonder what Hofmann felt . This guy was exciting in a truly marketable way . Maybe an earlier Chopin sec sonata would not sound so butchered as it did in the White House. That i don't forget !

  • you cannot play the piano any better than this...wonderful....

  • what a Paganoni!!!!

  • 0:12. Horowitz astonished me there already.

  • It is the canonical performance of the Liszt play. I like to play this piece too иге little differentlyю

  • shooting stars!
