Geo, 79, went to the sex shop for the first time as research for the Viva Vintage Monologues, a play about seniors sexuality. This is his story.
The Viva Vintage Monologues is a project by The Calgary Sexual Health Centre, The Foundation Lab and Seniors Action Group which brought together 8 seniors to explore the repercussions of societal repression of seniors sexuality. What we discovered was heartwarming, heartbreaking and ultimately about denying the essential humanity of our elders in our culture. We hope these stories will help illuminate the need for ongoing conversation, attention and care. Our Elders have so much to share.

I visited a sex shop last year at the age of 60 so I can totally relate to George. I checked around to make sure that no one seen me going in this shop. Inside I turned into a clam sneaking sideward glances at things I did not know existed. The young lady who worked there sensing my extreme cuisoity and my discomfort came over and started chatting ; I found myself relaxing . Finally I was brave enough to look around but unlike George I excitedly went home to check out my new umm things.

I had the great joy of seeing the Viva Vintage Monologues when it was performed at a sneak preview held at "A Little More Interesting" yesterday. If there is anyway that you can see one of the shows do yourself a favour and see it! The show is touching, funny, sincere, and you will hopefully get new insight into your own sexuality.
