You're right, but it is religion with its emphasis on blind faith in civil and religious authorities which keeps you enslaved. It is no accident that your masters are enthusiastically pushing religion into every corner of public life that they can get away with -- contrary to the US constitution which expressly prohibited that because it is a fundamental threat to freedom.

Stalin's five year plan, the famines, and indeed hitler's world war were not by any means religiously motivated: they were attempts at building a socialist utopia and a racially "pure" world for the third reich to flourish, respectively. Please come up with arguments that make sense. But wait... That's right: there aren't any!

Philanthropy has now a societal basis. Most know a kind, and fair society is safer for themselves, and relatives so it makes sense to help the potentially desperate, and thereby possibly dangerous. What goes around comes around.

Love of offspring in animals leads to a great biological advantage. It is a state transcending the pure direct ego situation which is the norm. Observe any mammalian mother in its lair with its young.You will see love. The feelings have to be powerful to override the powerful egoistic tendencies. To sacrifice for progeny is however indirect ego. Nonetheless a wonderful experience, a holiday from self.
