Why Linux is BETTER!

@colefreezer. Linux is an OS not an app and the drivers are in the kernel. No need for hunting the web or depending on a third party to provide them
-
@AleXy86, While back in the old day's that may have been true. It is not any more. Suse, Fedora, Mint and Ubuntoo are great at detecting good quality built hardware. Meanwhile Windows actually comes with no drivers and it is up to the third party to design the driver on a closed source platform. This leaves windows on shaky ground when it comes to stability. By default Linux is secure compared to windows just by design.

@TheJeppsen5 512 mb of ram?my 6 year old pc has 4,5 gb of ram!? btw, i had 2 vista computers, the cheapest one (toshiba) crashed after a year(yes, 1 YEAR) the other one (HP) crashed after 1,5 years, my 6 year old XP computer is still perfect, no viruses at all! changed the 2 vista computers to ubuntu and worked like a charm :P

go and make me a sandwich, linux!

@SolarisZen the required drivers (hdd dvd etc) are built into the os. And linux can be bad on some computers, i had 512 mb of ram and it was super slow, but i installed windows vista and it worked like a charm.

@ascolti, While Android certainly has had its lumps. It still has not gotten as bad as Microsoft Windows has.
-
@SolarisZen Secure.... yeah. Sure. Like Android you mean?

@dderkas also it updates regularly while windows updates every few years. I am talking about new operating system, not dumb old windows update which does nothing
-
@a888bomb unfortunately that will not stop the already there exploits nor help with your lack of resources on the machine itself

The Mac looks 90's.
@TheJeppsen5,
Drivers are not built into windows, you need the driver software from the manufacturer in order to run any hardware. I have ran linux on top of a machine that only had 4mb of ram and no hard drive. So I don't believe you when you stated Linux was "slow" but vista run fine? Vista got discontinued because of bloat as you need 1gig just to run it.

I'd like to interject for a moment, What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it.
