Il n'y a que Jonas Kaufmann qui chante avec intensité, profondeur et sens du dramatique. Domingo aussi, quand même. Les trois autres sont pathétiques !

I was very lucky to see , I still remember... :-) the 22nd december 1986 José Carreras in Don Jose in Barcelona. It was a fabulous and very very great great great performance.

I adore his voice, for me , he is the best Don Jose ever.

Jon Vickers is another good one though.

Domingo is great too, of course.

Alagna is for me the second best , I would even say, the best.

But I really like Carreras, so that is why I consider him the first....:-)

But to be honest, Alagna is the BEST

Neither Carreras nor Villazon had any business singing the role and I suspect that Rolando in spite of his success in Werther will drop it. The most nuanced performance was Kaufmann but the ROH production is the one to see.; Domingo was better than I remembered and Alagna in spite of the sobbing was a joy to hear; I hope he has a chance to give us a DVD with a better cast than what the Met provided.
