A glimpse at the last day of the holiday season at the mall for 35 year caricature artist veteran and iconoclast Sam.
These are some of the daily details of a typical day for a retail caricaturist.

Human vanity is the product and there is a never ending supply of that, thank goodness.

Read more about Sam's On The Road exploits in his auto-bio graphic novel, "Party of 1"...

  • hey sam I am a caricature artist too, People have given me cellphone photos of their friends to draw from...

  • Totally agree..... People are so caught up in the technicality of life, the dont stop to smell the roses....

  • This would be much better if the person "holding" the camera could hold still!! Leave the clever camera motion to the professionals and hold the damn thing steady!! You wrecked the quality of this piece.

  • Top live work Sam! I wish I had your skill and charm

  • Well I so enjoyed watching this mainly because I know you Sam, and I should be rolling over and laughing because I know your humor on this subject. You are a master at what you do and a master in seeing the under tone of human existences.

  • The customer is always right but it doesn't mean they have a clue what they want. He is trying to tell people to trust the artist more. People give the artist instructions as if they would be lost without them. The artist knows what he's doing. People need to trust that the artist will make the best caricature possible.

It might have come off wrong, but it's a frustraing subject. He is trying to inform people what to expect when getting a drawing done.

  • The customer is always right but that doesn't mean they have a clue what they want.

He is trying to tell people to trust the artist because the artist knows what he is doing. It might not have been the best way to express it, but he's just saying that the artist has expiriance the customer might not have, and they need to trust the artist to do what looks best.

  • WOW what a fun job. The squeaky thing is a little over the to though.

What do you charge your customers for a drawing?
