@giren0079 Caitanya appeared in 1486. Which is way later than Jesus, who was born and lived 33 years. After he left this earth, he left behind a predicted 500 people and 11 disciples to carry out his message. Which means his message spread from the part of the world and has in turn, became the largest religion. Most historians will agree that Christ lived, because they will point to the explosion of the religion during and right after his 33 year-lifespan.

@jmussemann Natural fear of God, not concious.

1: empathy, cultural influences, and fear of jail is what keeps us from killing your old lady, not the fear of god. Christians kill people all the time.I hope that is why you would not kill this old lady, just because the bible says not to

2:13 That's called a Naturalistic Fallacy. Has nothing to do with religious beliefs, merely cultural behaviors.

JLB first let me say I am posting in the spirit of discussion, but the evidences you put forward are not enough to convince someone who know about world religion. For instance in the religion of Sikhism between the 1st through 10th guru/prophet thousands of people were martyred many knew the gurus personally. As to prophesies look no further then Caitanya. His birthday, name of parents, skin tone and other major events were predicted in text that were written many years before the NT.

Just as organisms that are more likely to survive are more likely to pass on their genes, so are societies which are stronger able to live on. A society that likes in internal harmony without the members of the society killing each other is a lot more stable, hence a society without murder is a better society. No need to involve god in that. Also, prophecy is meaningless when you have no evidence that the fulfillment part actually happened.

I'll just respond to the first point : We are not born with a "moral standard". We absorb our concepts of right and wrong from our families and culture. The bible's moral standard included slavery and wife/child beating - considered "immoral" by our (modern) secular standards. I'll take secular morality over religious morality every day of the week.
Those who don't commit evil because they fear punishment - are not good people - but evil pretending to be good.
Religion twists reality.
