Speedy Gonzalez-Cat tails for two (1953)

The two cats pursuing Speedy in Cat-Tails for Two are the slow-witted (and injury-causing) Benny and the fully functioning but unfortunate George, both patterned after the characters Lennie and George in the novel Of Mice and Men. George and Benny are walking down a pier looking for food, when they find a Mexican ship. Figuring the ship will have plenty of Mexican mice, i.e. "Mexican food" (Benny: "It gives me the heartburn and I love it!"), they climb on, only to find an unkempt mouse calling himself "Speedy Gonzalez - Fastest Mouse in All Mexico".

Can anyone confirm if this was the first Speedy Gonzalez cartoon? This is the only one, where Speedy looked different?

@14DaveHunter Yes that's the first Speedy Gonzales cartoon.The first cartoon where we see Speedy in his current design was "Speedy Gonzales" (1955) which won Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

I remember in 7th grade I had watched this episode. Then in 9th grade I read of mice and men and the main characters of that book reminded me of the two mice in this episode. Apparently, these mice really were modeled after those characters as indeed the uploader states in the description.

i remeber this from 9th grade i watched this episode. then i read Of mice and men and the and my english teacher let us watch of mice and men movie. it was fun and my teacher that we watched this with is my geomerty teacher and he still reminds us how to spell petrol uh that is a funny way to spell water. and George is my friend.
