My brand new Thunderbird bass from Epiphone guitars! I Bought it online at Guitar Amp Keyboard. 24th March 2009

http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/epiphone-thunderbird/475

Strings: 4, Epiphone
Pickups: Ceramic, Epiphone bass humbuckers
Pots: Genuine Epiphone
Body: Alder, "reverse-style" Thunderbird body
Neck: Maple (with rosewood fingerboard)
Headstock: Awesome

This bass sounds very well indeed. Great for rock music which I frequently play, alongside other genres of music, even stretching to JAZZ, as demonstrated by my dad. The only type of pass players I would not recommend this guitar to are those who want to use it for slap, unless they have an amplifer which will warp the deep, rich sound into something funky.

As for the feel of the guitar, it is very comfortable to play, especially with the fingers in my case. Most bassists claim that with a pick/pleactrum they can get more 'attack' and I agree with this on other basses such as my Fender Precision, but with this bass I find that using my fingers to play gives me more attack power. When I first got it I noticed the severe amount of neck dive, so to correct this I moved the top strap button and screwed it into the neck plate as you can see. I also bought a nice leather strap to use as grip on my shoulder, with further reduces the neck dive.

I would recommend this guitar to any rock bass players out there from and intermediate level to a professional level. However, I would not recommend it to beginning bass players as they would have to learn to control the neck dive, the un-even body shape, and learn to play the instrument all at once, alongside the fact it is a costly instrument and isn't worth the buy unless the player is very committed and experienced.

  • I'm having trouble choosing between This bass (Epi thunderbird IV) and the pro one >< i like the look of this one better but which one has a nicer tone?

  • @jokerjam11 Ive never played a Pro through an amp but I'd nsay this bass is a very safer bet. It sounds killer and it has a bolt on neck which is good because if something where to happen the neck you could replace it whereas with the the Pro bass they are neck thrugh and so if the neck breaks the whole bass is fucked. Plus i think the pro basses have EMG pickups and im not a fan of their bass pickups.

  • @jokerjam11 i wouldnt go for either id go for the goth epiphone thunderbird

  • @MybandEnilation Yeah I agree with this guy the goth version has more bite and a matte finish. I wasnt too keen on the all black image so I went with this one (its pretty fuckin awesome in my opinion)

  • Northern Ireland much? ;D What a place! :P I am very jealous and want to steal this bass from you! :) Recommend it?

  • @fergie745 Good luck stealing it from me, my friend! sold it a few months ago :( and HELL YES I would recommend it :O its amazing I want to buy one again

    Customer Reviews:

"I love it! Plays great, even high up on the neck near the pickups. Arrived perfectly set up...no intonation problems. Action is great, sound is great...and looks great! Only issue is a pretty bad static hum...not sure what to do about it. Reduces when touching strings...but never completely silent. In summary: very attractive, but ..."

  • I have one of these and a Squier Vintage Modified 70's Jazz. I always thought the pickups on the Tbird would be better, but compared to the standard pickups on the VM Jazz they are suprisingly weedy. The Tbird is a nice bass to play but I'm going to have to upgrade the pickups I think. That said the build quality on the epihpone has a slight edge on thye squier

  • @ConorSomerz thanks :) has helped me alot :)

  • Played one recently at a party, best bass I ever tried, really comfy, precise tone, great neck, not heavy as I'd thought it looked, the tone was the best thing, tight, smooth versatile. Shall have to get one eventually.
