Here's something you don't see every day: a rock 'n' roll boxing movie! In fact, A Swingin' Affair opens with a great pre-credits sequence of DICK DALE AND HIS DELTONES playing some great Sixties-style surf music at a college fraternity party. But as they play, one of the pledges, Johnny Kowalski (BILL WELLMAN JR.), slips out of the party, speeds off to a boxing arena, becomes "Kid Gallant" in the ring and easily knocks out his opponent in the first round, then hurries back to the party just in time to hear Dale croon the title tune as if the fight never happened. It's as if "Kid Gallant" is Johnny's secret identity. Which is also the plot. Though he's good enough to be Middleweight Champ of the World, Johnny wants his boxing career to take a back seat to college. But it's not an education he wants; it's the fraternity contacts. Specifically, connections "to some of the most prominent families in the country. They're rich! They've got culture! They're gentlemen!" In fact, he's already got Leslie Hampton, the frat president's sister, gushing over him, and her daddy owns Hampton Steamship Lines! And he's determined to keep his boxing credentials hush-hush because "to them, a fighter is nothing but a crumb-bum!" - Something Weird

You'll notice that even though Dick is playing a left-handed guitar, he has strung it "upside-down." I.e., the base strings are on the bottom and the treble strings are on the top. Evidently, he learned to play guitar on a right-handed guitar turned upside down & just continued when he got a left-handed guitar.
