Blondie - Fan Mail 1977

I set my hand to writing you,
it drifted off the page
I sold my one vision,
for a piece of the cake

I haven't ate in days
For unspoken value aesthetic and charm
I'd smile at you sideways
But the lighting is wrong

I'm taking a picture
and counting the cost
While the bells in my ears keep ringing

(Instrumental)

I set my hand to writing you,
it drifted of the page
I nearly fell I feel like a lowlife in hell
And I haven't slept in days and days, days and days

(Instrumental)

Beat on my Fender through my Gemini two
Play to the posters on the wall of my room
Thought I was crazy when I'd think about you
And the bells in my ears keep ringing
And the bells in my ears keep ringing
In my ear bells are ringing

(Instrumental)

  • Holy Shit that is good. I could not narrow my favorite Blondie song down to one if my life depended on it, but this ranks up there.

  • @andeeze67 - part of the reason why I've never had a posse of female friends (at least not straight ones) is that my general response to questions about beauty and the like is 'go for comfort'. When someone I knew complained how she would shave her legs and then freeze in the winter, I said: 'Then don't shave - wear pants - if you must shave, wear thick hose.' It's not as though she worked anywhere where skirts were necessary... :)

  • @mroldnewbie - I like variety, so that's probably why I prefer the first album, though I thought that ironically part of its 'coherence' was that very variety. :)

  • @andeez67 - I admire Debbie, but I don't have an aesthetic for female beauty (at least not femmes - I can sort of see the appeal of some butches... :) ).

  • @Timmybear I suppose so, but even though the first record is fun - and I do think it's good, it's also all over the pace with little distinct "Blondie" sound. But you're obviously right that it's subjective. But since I wrote that comment above I've come to appreciate the first a bit more, if viewed as separate from the rest. It's just not a "whole" in my opinion, more like a collection of some random tunes.

  • @Timmybear- Clem before the Goddess Debbie? I'm afraid you are cursed, still whatever floats your boat...

  • @52leemonade - Back off. He's mine. ;)

  • @andeez67 - Hmmm - I prefer to fix my gaze on Clem's handsome face and hairy arms - but then I'm not cursed with heterosexuality. :)

  • @mroldnewbie - I suppose they're hearing subjectivity, which is the only measure of art's impact. There's no such thing as a definitive best or worst record. I prefer the songs on the first record, but the musicianship of the second. To me, there's some dodgy material on the second record, but it's played well. And from there to PARALLEL LINES, where technique and smoothness/studio-craft REALLY started to overwhelm the material (that would be my least favourite Blondie album).

  • I don't care how many Madonnas & Lady Gagas come along, DEBBIE HARRY WILL FOREVER BE THE ONE AND ONLY DIVA!!!!

  • @andeez67 I am a woman...and I agree!
