In a front-wheel drive car, the correct technique does not include countersteering. The driver should take off a bit of lock while accelerating. This corrects the slide.

However, for road drivers, the method suggested above is better.

  • couse they don't care

  • As long as you don't brake too hard you'll be ok. Adding a bit of accelerator dosent help the situation at all as it just speeds the car up, it does help drag it straight a bit but it makes the situation more dangerous also.

  • this is a good video, Because i had a accident couple months ago it started from a skid kinda like what you're talking about, But it was because water and oil on the road way, But thanks so much for this...it really does give you a since of what to do.

  • Actually if you're in a front wheel drive car it's best to add a bit of accelerator to your counter steer so that the front wheels pull you back into a straight line. I wouldn't recommend it around a corner though, it adds understeer ultimately.

  • counter steer and keep your foot on the gas =]

  • yes well it all depends on the car. if i let off on the gas on my car it will spin :P have to give a little opposite lock and a little gas. typical rear wheel sports car

  • I agree with Deemack, not many people do remember/ know about the pause; people find themselves playing with the steering wheel, making the car unstable from the weight moving around from side to side

  • Thanks! You helped me with my report for Driver's ED!
