The lion dance originated in China close to a thousand years ago where the lion is traditionally regarded as a guardian creature in Chinese culture.
The lion dance is danced in other countries.
The lion dance of this video is a Japanese version.
I recorded this lion dance performer at a shopping center in morning of New Year's Day.
2007年1月1日に福岡県のイオンショッピングタウン穂波で撮影しました。

  • I respect japanese culture, but the lion dance shouldn't be like this....Chinese one is much better!

  • Just enjoy it for its diverseness, There seems to be quite a few styles, all of which looks interesting. Chinese (Northern and Southern styles), Vietnamese, Korean, Okinawan and Japanese.

  • no offense but who are you to tell what a culture should and should not be like? I enjoy doing a mix of Sar Ping and traditional lion dancing but just because I prefer it doesn't make it better.

  • I kind of liked the music.. haha it was fun in a good way.. ^^
