(Ran out of wods! ) As to the Furey's And Davey, I can remember being somewhat "with the liquor" in the Middle bar at Sidmouth many, many years ago and demonstrating a harmony for "Live not where I love" to a bunch of hairy Irish guys.....Really nice , they were. - and whatever key I sung in.. They could play it (even in the same verse).. A great bunch of lads- and I'll never forget their tolerance! Slainte!- Guys!
EB. While I'm sure he'd like a few more "bob" for his work, if common appreciation was in coinage he'd be one of the richest,(and I suspect that's "almost" (!) the best form of remuneration for someone like Eric)
@easiflo2008 OK.Good. The name is common in Scotland and Ireland like other names which can be either Scottish or Irish. What seals it for me is the mention of the pipes playing "The Flooers o' the Forest" an old border ballad.
@southwoodside thats exactly my point im irish and i know well its a scots song and as i said eric was born in scotland ....... obviously knowing its a scots name and scottish song writer he just emigrated to australia was my point if u read my 3 comments
@24069500 As a Scot myself I made the remark as a crack at oorsell's . We seem to be steriotyped that way , why spoil the image . Eric Bogle is a wonderful songwriter and I have yet to meet a wealthy folk singer who has made great financial gain from their work. The folk writer , like the artist is more interested in his craft than financial gain . If not they would be claiming copyrite and selling themselves and their talent to Sony et al . Bogle , will be sung 100yrs from now
best song ever

@GYLEN1234 Trust me, even as a hard working and touring musician he is very far from wealthy, he is how ever a damned good song writer.

@DannyW542 It does not represent peace, it points out the futility of war.
