Thin Lizzy - Whiskey in the jar 1973

As I was going over
the Cork and Kerry mountains
I saw Captain Farrell
and his money he was counting

I first produced my pistol
and then produced my rapier
I said: Stand or deliver
or the devil he may take you!

Mush a ring dum a doo dum a da,
Whack for my daddy'o,
whack for my daddy'o,
there's whisky in the jar o.

I took all of his money
and it was a pretty penny
I took all of his money
and I brought it home to Molly

She swore that she'd love me,
never would she leave me
For the devil take that woman,
for you know she treat me easy

Mush a ring dum a doo dum a da,
Whack for my daddy'o,
whack for my daddy'o,
there's whisky in the jar o.

(Instrumental)

Now some men like the fishing
and some men like the fowling
And some men like to hear
the cannonball a roaring

Me-like sleeping,
specially in my Molly's chamber
But here I am in prison,
here I am with a ball and chain yeah.

Mush a ring dum a doo dum a da,
Whack for my daddy'o,
whack for my daddy'o,
there's whisky in the jar o.

Like a drunk one with you
And I loved, I loved

  • Man, looking in that man's eyes moves me to tears...

  • @bufddymike Well...The original ballad did not include that smashing riff and solo which were copied by metallica . So yes, they ripped them off.

  • SUUUUUUPER

  • RESPECT TO IRISH!!!!

  • @Pawelec801 hahahahahahaaaaa...funny....but phil deserves all the respect man!!!!

  • @MrAxekiller58 Twwwwaaaatttttt

  • @MrAxekiller58 Metallica didn't rip anyone off. They did it as a tribute to Thin Lizzy on their tribute (covers) album. Moron. Besides, this is very old folk song with HUNDREDS of different variations dating back decades before Thin Lizzy, Grateful Dead or Dubliners performed it.

  • mettallica ripped these guys off big time

  • @steve9893 duh!
