  • The issue archaeologists have with shows like Extreme Archaeology, is that it presents a false image of archaeology to the public. Sure, sometimes archaeology can be as exciting as you see in those shows, but there is a lot of hard work (as in research, report writing, getting permissions to work in particular areas, etc.) that archaeologists do that is not seen in these shows. And if students are being drawn to archaeology under false assumptions, then that's not a good thing.

  • this isn't real archaeology. Their dry humor, like it or not, makes a point here. This toolbag posing as Indiana Jones is a joke to the people who do the real work. You think he's studied ANY ancient languages? Anthro or Archaeology? Ancient History? Who cares! I have a hat and a parachute, let's fool the public into thinking this is a real field. This is self-indulgence, not science.

  • The fact that shows like this make people pay more attention to archeology and get institutes mentioned more funding. I guess means nothing. Besides I'd like to see you do half the stuff he has done on the show. I for one think these shows are a good thing, and the fact that no one seems to notice the obvious amount of time the travel and research would of taken is a failing of our society not the shows.

  • wow those two make archaeologists look like fucking poofs.

  • @sonofthetis Wow. That was insanely silly. This guy is a gift to archaeology. He's passionate about it and know a hell of a lot about it, which is what he's trying to share through the show. Of course they have to spice it up for the viewers (think the old dinosaur fart from Mrs. Doubtfire - no one wants to watch that) but that doesn't make his message any less important or intelligent.

  • This is not funny. I hate it when people are sarcastic and rude when they could be doing something productive. These people are clearly insecure and therefore they want to dismiss anything that makes archaeology interesting to the general public.

  • You guys are total idiots. I hope that when I get into the archaeological field that I never have to work with you. It's because of people like you that worthwhile scientific fields can't be taken seriously. Stop being so stuck up and deal with it, if you don't like the show or the host (here's a thought) don't watch it.

  • Much, even most of what they is valid... so why does it come off as pure jealousy?

  • haha this video is awesome... our teacher showed it to us in my intro to prehistory class a few weeks ago... nice work

  • I wish those two nerds would shut up...I think I'll go and wtch a video where Josh talks instead...He is awesome and I absolutely adore him. I miss him on DFT though.
