The meaning of this song is very clear. My mother told me when I was a child: "if wishes were horses, beggars would ride." When you start a sentence with "if" it's a waste of time. The meaning was clear then just like the meaning of this song. "If" doesn't get you anywhere, duh! Beautiful song sung as only Roger Whittaker can do.

I remember this song from when I was a kid in the mid 70's. I was 7 and I very much liked it then and I still do today.Thanks for posting this!
