This was originally an R32 GTS-t type M. Now built as a race car with the original RB20DET engine with minor mods pulling a conservative 22bls boost with 413hp at the wheels. We plan to go further with the engine to see what we can pull out of it, yet still making for a usable track engine. Why? Because every one changes to the bigger 2.5, 2.6 or 3 ltr and we want to put the car up front with a 2 ltr which should be quite possible with the rest of the car dialed in properly.
This was my first time out on a slick tyre hence bogged down on the start line still would not have stood a chance against the EVO even with a good start.

  • Only 413 bhp? that is a huge amount out of an RB20-DET.

I dont even know how this is possible. people are posting lots of money mods on this engine and on average i only see 280bhp...320bhp tops really.

what ECU are you running with this? i assume you have the z32afm?

im puzzled with that power claim mate!

the car sounds like it has it tho

  • @simonize999 Check out the dyno video on youtube. 308KW ATW RB20. I use Speedtech Motorsport in NZ. To pull this power I have thrown the AFM away and run a MAP sensor instead, this gives unrestricted air flow. I am using a Link G4 ecu.

  • @Leithyl what else have you done to it. Minor mods to run 22 psi is out there. plz reply

  • @simonize999 really because i know 3 people in my area with 350 + hp rb20dets with stock internals + stock cams.

  • Well done Leith, I have always said RB20DET were a good engine if built correct, man you made something that is not only competitive but reliable too.

My wifes first turbo race car is going to be a R32 with said RB20DET although not quite as tuned as yours, but Grady and Bob at hitech to finish the build of the ECU and injectors, however we are using a smaller turbo.. but using the G4 link.

    very cool non the less

  • Great build!

    I'm running a std RB20 w/ a GT3071R @ 16PSI and 360RWHP.

Awesome driving too, I love your description: "Because every one changes to the bigger 2.5, 2.6 or 3 ltr and we want to put the car up front with a 2 ltr which should be quite possible with the rest of the car dialed in properly." THANK YOU!

  • Great vid, Great driving. Really enjoyed watching someone else out there giving an RB20 a hard time and getting good times

  • @foodley123 Nah, not a good idea. The selector forks are weak as fuk. Any fast changing with break them, I've done 2 and fuked 1 set of syncros already . If any upgrade is to be done there it'd be a dog box at the least

  • Dude, you need a different selector - your losing shift times with it - look for either a nismo short kit or I think there are some after market ones that are even shorter - but they will give you a bit more feel - I think you can use the same for all RB Nissan boxes. wouldn't be a mad exspensive exercise.

  • @Leithyl i know what you mean, if your going to do cams in an RB20 you might as well just go solid lifters and a smaller duration high lift cam since the RB20's head ports are so small.
