Also how the heck is a CANON CONTINUATION OF A STORY just "their take on an open-end of the story"? I mean seriously. It's canon. Not open-ended. This is not a matter of opinion, it is a fact. Persona 2 EP is not some fanmade game, it is official, and canon. There, I said it three times. I hope that was enough.

Because Tatsuya made the innocent sin of refusing to forget, meaning Nyarlathotep continued.

I could just imagine what was going through Tatsuya's mind when he saw her alive, knowing that she died in the "other side" before everyone (except him) sacrificed their memories just so things would go back the way they were. It must have been a hurricane of emotions tearing up his heart. He could have hugged her right there and then, but it would be awkward and would cause a scene. Sadly, in that alternate reality, she didn't know him at all...until EP came along and reversed the situation. =(

@xXxSasuHinaLoverxXx Maya's smile at the end of EP is not a painful smile; There's no bittersweetness. She shows relief, like "I'm glad you're okay and healthy" type of face.
She knows what Tatsuya must do, and she understands. That's the kind of emotion she's showing at the end.
She does not think like, "It's too painful to think about you, because I can't be with you.", and that's not Maya's character. Her role is more like a sisterly figure (almost maternal).

@xXxSasuHinaLoverxXx You didn't fully understand what I said. I admit, It is true that Tatsuya refused to forget what happened in IS timeline, but Nyalathotep is the one who's actually responsible for everything. Tatsuya's refusal to forget made his connection between two world more vulnerable than the others. Nyalathotep saw through and orchestrated everything happening in EP.

@cainschwartz No, Tatsuya refused to forget them and accept Maya causing him to become a parodox of his side and the Other which makes the alternate world Enternal Punshiment. The themem of the game is Tatsuya's Innocent Sin was his refususal to accept the Maya's death and move. His Enternal Punshiment is he lives on the other side where none of his friends remember eachother. This applies to Maya as well, she can never be with Tatsuya and EP ends with her realizing that

Once again, the ending to P2: Innocent Sin is WAY more sad than the ending to P3 T_T

If I remember correctly, Nyarlathotep is the one who restored Tatsuya's memory because it would be more amusing; that is why he provided the Train Station event (Everyone did not want to forget but Tatsuya in particular was more suitable victim considering how he strongly expressed his loneliness of forgetting IS events)
Best ending of EP would be characters from IS (Lisa, Eikichi, Jun, Tatsuya) to not remember any IS events.

As far as my knowledge, Atlus couldn't fit IS and EP into one game so they split them into two...which is why we have IS and EP now. So TECHNICALLY EP is not a sequel...(think IS as Persona 2 season 1 and EP as Persona 2 season 2)
IS is my favourite Persona game of all, but I have to agree that EP completes the story. (but IS is better than EP...for my taste)

Maya 4ever life

I wouldn't be surprised if EP was actually conceived first. I kind of feel like Innocent Sin's only purpose was to compliment Eternal Punishment, which is the "main" meat of the story.
Innocent Sin is basically one giant ass prologue lol
I already told you, getting back at Nyarlethotep. Even though what Philemon and everyone did helped erase the events, it still doesn't make them any less painful when Tatsuya remembered them.
and let me tell you, that everyone else will eventually remember as well. Why would you honestly NOT want that?
