This is the largest salamander of this type I have ever seen - about 4 inches long. Also there are many brown and grey ones underneath pots placed on the sandy soil. I'll try to find a collection of eggs to post, but I rarely see them.

[Sorry about the camera movement/focus - extreme magnification is difficult by hand. Hopefully, you can get an idea of the texture across the body and small proportion of the legs. Higher resolution version availible.]

  • I have pots in planters draining into the dirt, and above it is a self. Because the planters get only partial sun and are terracotta moisure collects under them. This creates a favorable environment.

  • what do u do to attract the salamanders.

  • Many salamanders are endangered, but these are fairly common. I have purposely created little environments to bring birds and insects and other little creatures into the yard. I've spent countless hours trying to get some video of the hummingbirds - nothing yet. (c:

  • Very cool! From your description it sounds like you see them fairly often. I see someone else has uploaded footage of salamander eggs - you can actually see the embryos moving. Thanks again for showing this - good luck on finding a clutch of eggs
