This video is for those who want to read music and learn songs really accurate (like reading sheet music) but without needing to learn how to read sheet music.

I find a great software that display all the events recorded inside an MIDI sequence through a virtual keyboard. This way you can simply look at the notes in your computer screen and repeat them in your piano.

Each channel can be view it separately or in a single roll.

I learn to play many songs with this program; classical, rock, pop, ballad... You can learn complex songs even if you don't know anything about sheet music.

The best software I find to display the notes is Sweet Sixteen MIDI Sequencer (by Roni Music). Although Synthesia is great too but is more like a game than a tool for musicians. To learn more about Synthesia go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZgtPffZw6A or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2mPdXJsLcc

Download Sweet Sixteen MIDI Sequencer:
http://www.ronimusic.com/sweet_16.htm

If you want to try Synthesia too, go here: http://www.synthesiagame.com/

vanBasco's Karaoke Player is another software that you may want to try for the same purpose:
http://www.vanbasco.com/

You can find Sweet Sixteen MIDI Sequencer for free in trial version so it will be some limitations and it will popup a continuous reminder to buy the product, but it will work just fine. You can also buy it.

Tips for Sweet Sixteen MIDI Sequencer:
- To move the keyboard in the grid hold down the shift key and use the left/right arrow button.
- To auto-load the custom settings save a file with the name "DEFAULT.SNG", this file will be automatically loaded every time the program is booted. This way you can import your favourite settings, e.g. MIDI Click Channel, Input Filter, Disable Transpose etc, automatically into the program. "DEFAULT.SNG" must be in the same directory as Sweet Sixteen.

Tips for Synthesia:
- Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to change the speed of the song.
- Use LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to rewind or forward the song.

  • does it work on mac??? PLS reply ... ~.^

  • @arthurthethirdxxx The software I show in this video doesn't work on Mac but Synthesia (that is similar) do work on Mac. I recommend download Synthesia. Is for free!

  • This is shit. Use synthesia >.>

  • @AshBlue1989 Synthesia is great too, but Sweet Sixteen 32 is not shit. In Sweet Sixteen you can do more things. You can edit the midi, see the pedal action, mix the channels you want, change the sound for every channel, etc. Besides, I make this video before I find out about Synthesia.

You dont have to be an ass.

  • THANKS! I learned Nyan cat xD

  • @veryMONKEYsilly To learn a song? Yes. The way to learn a song is to watch (in pause) one bar and learn the notes from the right hand, then the left hand, and last the two together. After that, learn the next bar. And so on...

Is no different from sheet music in that way.

  • hard to keep up

  • As far I know, you just need to connect your keyboard with your computer and play a midi file in your computer selecting the keyboard as the out-device.

I have a MIDI-to-USB cable that works great. You should buy one.
