There are no white on black rapes? False. And a comment to the rest of your comments, you don't know this man. He DOES have a job. He works hard and he IS making a difference. You complained about rap music being violent and corrupt. But here is a man rapping about real things. You should be pleased with this. But you aren't! Have you ever listened to real hip-hop? You talk about what is played on the radio. Believe it not, that is not all hip hop. Do some research.
Richardson is mostly poor Hispanic. Who is the message in this video aimed at~ the unsupervised teens or urban influences? No? It's easy to blame but harder to admit that we, all of us, played a part in this crime. Schools, parents, spiritual leaders, government and the entertainment industry all influenced these teenagers. Maybe the next video should be about what WE going to do to make a difference in their lives? L.M. Hardy, RN
... "uniquely negative" is an almost unfair statement. It sounds like you are saying that hip hop is to blame for society's ills. Yes, many minds are influenced by hip hop. Yes you can say that rappers are leading fans down a path of destruction. To single rappers out in this responsibility is just not fair, however. Condemnation rarely helps to revert people's actions. It takes more personal conviction. Even then, there is never a guarantee that things will turn around.
You can debate all day what is worse than hip hop. It's one of the biggest influences on youth's views of society and their own selves, often more than their parents. If a grown man makes millions of dollars brainwashing kids and promoting pimping, drug-dealing, and gang culture, he is an evil person. If you have any confusion over something so simple you are in severe spiritual crisis. By defending or endorsing them even in a minor way, you align yourself with them, and assume responsibility.
The fact is that once the corporations took over the production and marking of commercial Hip-hop/Rap, they have bastardized the true art-form and are responsible for it's content, the tone, direction, image and lyrics are sponsored by large corporations period.
Do they give 30 Million dollar deals to groups like: Public Enemy, A Trice Called Quest, Rakim, Mos Def, Talib Kweli?
They are always looking to fund the next young grezzy, lil grimey, young sleazy
I'd rather rate/judge the actions more than the people themselves. We are all in a spiritual crisis. Tell me where does evil comes from. We can uplift and berate a person for the good and the wrong that they do. Of course, we don't like the fact that "good" people do bad things. We call that hypocrisy; instead of admonishing, we'd rather [negatively] criticize the person. I assume if they are on the wrong path, then they are limited to being wrong for life. [cont'd...]
I understand your fervor completely. There IS no defense for promoting wrongdoing. Our lives are driven by the decisions we make, whether of our own will or not {the spiritual issue}. You have plenty trying to do good things through hip hop. We have to continue to encourage that good. I don't like seeing high school crack & heroine addicts, teens and tweens lost to gangs, etc. These have all been influenced and spread by music, but not started by music or artists. It's beyond the human.
