  • Come now, West Africans have intermingled for hundreds of years before Europeans came and drew boarders for us thus creating african countries such as ghana and nigeria. So her name is Esien or Essien GREAT! There are ALSO a lot of Ghanaians who bear that name (and probably even some ivorians). It's safe to say that this is a GREAT example of African's being ONE! Idc if her name is Essien & if she's from Nigeria! I just care that she's a SISTA who is doing her thing PERIOD! GOD BLESS!

  • Why dos everyone give a shit where she comes from? She's funny, does it matter?

  • @Thejoecross Essien is both a Nigerian + Ghanaian name, they have the same spelling but completely different meanings in Fante, Ga and Efik, they are pronounced differently aswell! I've never seen Essien spelt with 1 S in Nigeria, my surname is Usoro Essien and all other Nigerians I know with the name spell it with 2 S. Besides, the Ga people historically used to live in Nigeria before they migrated to Ghana...so who knows

  • are u mad her name is not Essien. her name is Esien. you nigerians are crazy. no one is saying she is Ghanaian. and do u know how many people called Essien in ghana. and even the names are not the same. go facebook and type in Essien you will see they are all ghana people and type in Esien they all nigerians. don't chat shit about Essien is a nigerian name. and ye she is nigerian her name is not double s. so ma africa people stop arguing.

  • she is nigerian not ghanaian so lets just get that out of the way in ghana we use royal surnames so wen u see it u automatically know that they are from ghana for example ofori-atta

    essien is just a surname

  • @maryray10 Essien means outside, outsider/visitor/stranger as in 'Essien-owo'. It also means lonely,or alone eg 'Nsangha essien'

Yes you're right, we ARE the same people, who just settled in different placed, but kith and kin all the same!

    Abasi odiong fi Nne!

  • @vixxy02 essien means outside. and Akwa Ibomites n Cross Riverans are the same people so...itz nice to know u do know ur history. I dont remember what ur comment which i responded to was all about, so I wont comment further. V fun

  • @maryray10 You posted this info to me by mistake,'cos I'm not VitaNagern77! And BTW,she's from Calabar, and I do know my African History, and the migratory factor,I was just stating a fact, and asking Ghanaians what 'Essien' means.........none could give me an answer:)

  • @VitaNegern77 Michael Essien is from Ghana but d reason his name is Essien is cos people fron Akwa Ibom/Cross River area stayed a while in Ghana while Migrating from Egypt to Nigeria...so technically we are all from the same tribe.

Moi from AKS ie Akwa Ibom State

Miss Jocelyn from Nigeria possibly my tribe too or CRS

And Michael is Ghanaian and technically from the same tribe.

just like u have Fulani's in 9ja and other places in Africa..sorry i forgot we Africans do not know our history :)
