The Himalayan Cataract Project http://www.cureblindness.org coordinated an eye care intervention in Koraro, Ethiopia, in late-April/early-May 2008 in partnership with the Millennium Villages Project. During the intervention in the research village of Koraro, Ethiopia, the team examined 3,650 people, provided 129 cataract surgeries, pterygia surgeries and over 100 trichiasis surgeries for trachoma. In addition, the entire village received a mass treatment of Zithromax for trachoma, reading glasses were distributed and Vitamin A was provided. The exams revealed a high incidence of Trachoma and blindness from Trachoma, significant vitamin A deficiency and many people who were blind from cataracts. The team went on to Hawzien and Quiha Hospital in Mekelle for hundreds more screenings and cataract surgeries. HCP director Dr. Geoff Tabin and HCP board member Dr. Matt Oliva are among the doctors shown in this video.
This is an eye camp in service of people living in the most remote place on the planet. Water is scarce and you see Dr Tabin examining and then treating with ointment eyes. These people have an infection that they get by sharing water to wash their face that is contaminated. It is called Tracoma. It over years leads to scaring of the cornea and blindness. He is also distributing vitamin A to prevent blindness from Measles infection in children. Consider donating to his foundation.

What an incredible and amaising humanitarian work! It is a blessing to work with such people around the World. There are good people in our World but we just don't talk about them. We only talk about the bad ones like Osama!!!

I actually had the pleasure to listen to Geoffrey Tabin speak at Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah. What a terrific person Mr. Tabin is and how wonderful he must feel helping all these people enjoy the world again with their eyesight restored again. We all must learn to be "givers" in this world. Mr. Tabin is one great example of how man helps fellow man.
