In-studio music video of "Mess of Me" by Switchfoot from the album "Hello Hurricane". I did not make this video! ©2009 Atlantic Records/lowercase people records.

Lyrics:
I am my own affliction
I am my own disease
There ain't no cure that they could sell
No, there ain't no drug to make me well
There ain't no drug

There ain't no drug
There ain't no drug
It's not enough
The sickness is myself!

I've made a mess of me
I wanna get back the rest of me
I've made a mess of me
I wanna spend the rest of my life alive
I've made a mess of me
I wanna reverse this tragedy
I've made a mess of me
I wanna spend the rest of my life alive
The rest of my life alive

We lock our souls in cages
We hide inside our shells
It's hard to free the ones you love
Oh, when you can't forgive yourself
Yeah, forgive yourself

There ain't no drug
No, there ain't no drug
There ain't no drug
The sickness is myself!

I've made a mess of me
I wanna get back the rest of me
I've made a mess of me
I wanna spend the rest of my life alive
I've made a mess of me
I wanna reverse this tragedy
I've made a mess of me
I wanna spend the rest of my life alive
The rest of my life alive

There ain't no drug
There ain't no drug
There ain't no drug
No drug to make me well
There ain't no drug
It's not enough
I'm breaking up
The sickness is myself
The sickness is myself!

I've made a mess of me
I wanna get back the rest of me
I've made a mess of me
I wanna spend the rest of my life alive
I've made a mess of me
I wanna reverse this tragedy
I've made a mess of me
I wanna spend the rest of my life alive
The rest of my life alive!

Note: In the album version of the song, Jon Foreman sings, "There ain't no drug that they could sell," but in this version, he sings, "There ain't no cure that they could sell." Also, the lyrics that are in the album booklet say that Jon Foreman sings, "Inside these prison cells," but I think that it is incorrect and that he sings, "We hide inside our shells". Lastly, I apologize for the bad quality of the video.

  • SF can also mean SUPER FANTASTIC!!

  • this is my favorite switchfoot song besides Free.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think this song is about how we in today's world want a quick fix for our problems or mess. Just one little pill fixes everything these day. We make a mess (aka our sins) and we buy a pill to make it go away, but it doesn't go away it gets worse when we try to fix things in our own strength. Instead, if we forgive ourselves and others we live alive in the Spirit because He does the work. Awesome lyrics and metaphors and the music solos are great too! This song is just as effective as Just a

  • i know who to play that on bace!!!!!!!

  • ummm..... it's about doing drugs, screwing your life up and making mistakes then realizing that there's never enough drugs to fix it, it's about getting sober and dealing with yourself without the drugs, learning to forgive yourself and living life afterwards
