A special kind of school social worker hired to focus on students just beginning to exhibit habitual truancy - that's the idea of the Attendance Intervention Specialist in the Green Bay Area School District.
Kelly Rowe and Kim Schanock, attendance intervention specialists in Preble and West High Schools, describe the way they work, the success they are experiencing, and considerations for whether and how to implement this practice.
This interview was recorded at the Wisconsin Graduation Summit, March 2, 2010, where Rowe and Schanock gave a sectional presentation.

If you have a Bachelors of Social Work do you need your masters to be a Attendance Intervention Specialist?

@jkleinesable The school district in Green Bay created the "Attendance Intervention Specialist" position as a type of School Social Worker, so it requires a School Social Worker license from the Wisconsin DPI. That license does require a master's degree. For more information, Google "School Social Work in Wisconsin." On a DPI page by that name, about halfway down you'll find a link called "Wisconsin Requirements for School Social Work Certification."
