The Kitchen Floor

This is a remake. The first version I posted, I performed, right after I finished writing it. So I hadn't really learned it yet. And yes, song writers often have to learn their songs after they write them. I know it seems weird. :)

Also the previous version was a poor quality video, I've made some changes to how I record. I hope it's made a difference.

I was practicing this tune for a song pull. But alas, it was canceled.

The Kitchen Floor
He told her many times before, as he slammed her head on that kitchen floor
you'd better watch out for the things you say to me
She picks herself up cryin, for a dream that's lost and gone,
And thinks about her chores and her day that's just begun

She takes a broom leaning on the wall and with it she begins to scrawl
A pattern in the flour spilled on the floor
The symbol of a broken heart and love that's lost and gone
And wonders when the madness came or has it just begun

Chorus:
And she remembers, when he first smiled at her.
He was so bright and charming, she called him her rescuer
Her mother called him trouble, said he was just like her father
But she was blinded by the faith of a love that's just begun

The walls they've been closing in, but she's afraid to begin again
She wonders if she deserves a better life
She is her mother's daughter, so maybe she deserves her fate
But a voice from deep inside her, insists it's not too late.

And she recalls so many years ago, her mother and father exchanging blows
How she dreamed of escaping to a better life
And knows it's time to try again, and walk out one more time
As he's passed out in the living room, she escapes for better climes
