  • Did he say parrotfish?

  • Yes, parrotfish. We were trapping them on a coral reef, then bringing them to an onshore tank, collecting fecal samples and returning them to the reef - non-invasive means of collecting a sample. End result is measuring cortisol level in feces to determine if fish are stressed from life on the reef...

  • i have to ask you some thing I've wondered my whole life say you have a 100 gallon tank and say you can lift it. if it is full of water and you put a big fish in their will it have the mass of the fish or just the water?

  • well, if it had only the mass of the water it would be a great way to move heavy stuff around...

  • they probably use a winch for lifting it

  • we dive down and bring the trap up by hand, it's light weight underwater, then before transferring to the raft, we carefully remove the weights from inside then lift to the raft...

  • So did you catch any parrotfish? And wouldnt the stress of being captured affect the cortisol level in the fecal sample. unless fecal matter has a cortisol lag, which is something i am not sure about.
