Acoustic Testing and Modeling of an Underwater Sound Source
The customer needs to estimate the acoustic performance of his underwater sound source in the ocean, without physically testing there. This work is concerned with making such performance predictions from testing in a tank of water. The biggest challenge is that the sound pressure level reading in a relatively small tank is not the same as it would be in a large body of water (due to reflections of the waves). Thus, finite element based computer modeling is coupled with experiment to obtain the necessary results. Methods for testing and computer modeling are presented, along with any conclusions from the work.
