The first thing Shelby Hart noticed when she woke up in the morning, were the already-formed goosebumps trailing up her arms. Her drowsy eyelids snapped open as a full-length shiver erupted through her body.
Shelby lifted her hand and searched blindly for the thick and warm patchwork quilt. Failing to retrieve it, she forced herself to sit up in bed, and in doing so, was able to see out the window.
She felt her heart jump and spirits soar as her eyes took in the once dewy-green grass, now completely coated in magnificent sheets of pure white snow. "YES!" She couldn't contain her excitement. With the deadly hot summer they had gone through, it was uncertain as to whether or not there would be snow this year in Austin. THANK YOU JESUS. Shelby was outside in her fluffy jacket and boots in no time.
Accompanied by her sister Taylor, and her best friend Chelsea, a snowman was built and surrounded by a bunch of sloppy snow angels. "SHELBY, LOOK OUT!" Her head instinctively whipped around towards the location of the warning voice, just to be hit smack-dab in the center of my face by a cold, wet mass of hurling ice.
Happy Winter.

A day such as this would not be spent indoors, so Taylor drove them to the park where they could get away with behaving like a bunch of little kids.
Time flew by faster than they could process, and the suns light was quickly fading. The neighborhoods children were being whisked away by their mothers, and the husky teenagers were making their way into the night.
It was bonfire time.

The local high schoolers gathered in the parks perimeter, socializing around the feeble but warm blaze. There was singing and dancing, roasting and smoking, kissing and snuggling, gossiping and flirting. The average high school scenario. Taylor was off, hidden behind a tree, snogging her boyfriend, while Chelsea was flirting with the majority of the football team.
Love was obviously in the air, much to Shelby's displeasure.
She was often bitter when being abandoned my her friends for their lovers. Yet she understands that's the consequence she must pay for staying single. It's not that she WANTS to be single. And it's definitely not that boys aren't interested in her. Shelby just has a very critical eye, you could say. She's not completely sure of her taste in men, because she hasn't met the right one yet. She won't go for just ANY guy. Even if they seem perfect to other girls. Nope not gonna fly with her.
What Shelby wanted more than anything was to find love. She wanted the kind of love where the boy can never take his eyes off of the girl. The kind of love where it kills you to be apart for any period of time. A genuine, romantic, passionate, intimate, no boundaries kind of love...

She was sitting on a sturdy log near the fire, the heat absorbing into her chilled, ivory skin. She was fully concentrated on her icy fingers, attempting to thaw them out, when a pair of black leather boots appeared in her parallel vision. She remained focused on her fingers, knowing the mysterious boots most likely belonged to one of her obnoxious, immature, male classmates. Though she couldn't think of any guy she knew with a good enough sense of style to own those leather boots.

"Mind if I sit here?"
She didn't recognize the smooth, husky voice. So her curiosity got the better if her. She lifter her head curiously only to nearly have the wind knocked out of her.

He was gazing softly down at her, the smile invisible on his mouth, but apparent in his rich, chocolate eyes. His lips were full and his hair consisted of perfect, shiny, luscious, brown waves.
He was dressed in attire she couldn't imagine any guy at her school being able to pull off. A thin black scarf was swung around his neck, and a black leather jacket protected him from the harsh winds. And then of course, his jeans topped off with those sleek, black, leather boots.
She definitely did not know him. But she wanted to.
