By far, one of the best games of the early 80's. I spent a TON on this one back in the day, and now I have a full-size version of my own in my game room.

@ArmChairinsin yep. I was 18 at the time. I spent way too much time in the game room and not enough time studying. Find me.... the wizard of wor ha ha ha. hehhehehe

@TruthSurge That's how we played it back in '80-81, too; it's really the only way to go. I can't tell you how many Quarters this bastard Wizard sucked up. We'd use our lunch money and forego eating, just to try and kick his ass, only to lose every time. We were saddened when the machine was replaced by Star Castle, but that game had its own addictive qualities. Magical Times.

This was one of my favorite childood games

Awesome. This really brings back memories. Is there an arcade version of Wizard of Wor for PC?

This arcade game is rather cool because it has *triphonic* sound. Two stereo speakers, and a third speaker in the middle for the speech! A shame MAME doesn't have the complete vocabulary, this game really says a lot.

Dot dot dot...lol Love the Classics.

@abodysite i d/l the one for PC and played. pretty much the same game. Crazy how stuff evolves. I can play stuff on the PC now that it basically a functional alternate reality and people in 1982 couldn't really imagine it happening. What will happen in the year 2100?
Pretty cool. This makes me think of reloading MAME for the first time in years. Does the Wizard's voice cut out like that all the time though?
Still, it runs at the right speed unlike "Wizard of Wor Turbo" on Midway Arcade Treasures (PS2) - get 30,000 points on that and you're a legend. After playing that I ought to tear it up at regular speed.

Unfortunately, the voice never seemed to be quite right. MAME uses sampled sounds for this game (124 tiny WAV files, actually) and pieces them together to form the sentences. That seems to cause the voice to "talk over itself" a lot (at least on my system).
