Not a lot of drummers wouldnt even bother to look at some of the older cats, looking at drummers from back then is my inspiration, my favorite modern day drummer is aaron spears but we all learn differentt ways so

Mr Groovzilla, you are 1 lucky guy,I would hv done anything to get pair of Stick from the late great Tony.

i saw tony williams at jazz alley in seattle back in the early 90's. i actually met w/him during a dinner break and he gave me a set of sticks. my ex-wife worked at jazz alley and set up the meeting. it was really great to talk with him. i remember after one of his sets the manager of jazz alley came up to the stage and asked him to play lower...so funny...what a joke. tony williams is loud - thats his style.

Best god dam drummer this planet has ever seen!

I am going to practice this solo just to check my cardiovascular system...hope to survive.
What an icon of drumming this sir really was. I discovered Tony in my twenties when I was very fond of prog rock/jazz and workshiped Peart, Gadd and Colaiuta, all of them masters on their own right. But Tony is just special, cant explain it.

@MrQstixx in terms of using the latest of state of the art technology in clinics ,gigs etc..
Tony could get his sound out of any kit any time given.Vinnie & Dave are phenomenal drummers what so ever.

" Weckl and Vinnie have no sound " Really?

@ziberfantom HUH? Maybe you don't know this but the band is "vamping" which means they are repeating a musical phrase for Tony to solo over. The whole tune was not in this video clip, just the drum solo over the vamp!!
@Asymmatrix Saying Chambers is a poser fraud should be punishable by law :P The rest of your comment, totally cool though.

i love the fact that he defies what is deemed the proper jazz drum set up!! no coated head on the snare so...no brushes even though he can kill it, big toms stylistically tuned to rock...to my drum bruhs out there try showing up to a gig with that set up and watch the comments fly out of their mouths...swing it hard and hit hard and mean everything you play...thats what tony was about, INTENTIONAL MUSIC ....I LOVE IT!!! ,
