Modern Marvels - Engineering Disasters ep. 12 on the History Channel. They do a fair job explaining some of the facets of Bonfire, especially the priority thats given to keeping it student run, and keeping the mechanization of it as low as possible. This is probably from 2003, as the memorial is still being built in the last scenes.

From the outside looking in, you can't understand. From the inside looking out, you can't explain. We will never forget.

Falcon, the pressbox was not swaying. It was moving because the camers wsa bidy mounted, not floor mounted. It is a breath motion. The same thing happens when a news crew turns off motion stabilizers.

Of course I'm an Aggie. Class of '12. Figured saying it was the greatest tradition in the nation would be self evident that I am a die hard one. That get together they do off-campus is incomparable to the real thing.

You didn't have to be an engineer to see that it was a stupid idea to building it that way.

i started A&M in 2000. it was a strange time to be in Aggieland that year. I am just so grateful to my friend's parents who took us to Bonfire in Jr. High. I can only thank God i got a chance to see it....

I went to Bonfire in 87 and 88. Very cool experience. Saddened that for future students it will never be the same again.
