The Thailand premiere of Mahler's 9th Symphony. Of this performance, critic Adrian Tan said: "the Siam Philharmonic captured the spirit of the music in a manner that one does not always hear in performances even by renowned orchestras." Though far from note-perfect, this youthful orchestra really plumbed the depths of Mahlerian emotion. Somtow Sucharitkul conducted using a baton last used by Leonard Bernstein to conduct this symphony, presented to Somtow by Stan Gayuski, from the New York chapter of the International Mahler Society.
