  • bret and shawn hated each other because bret was old school and shawn was a whiny diva who was zonked on somas most of the time and manipulated Vince to do what he and the rest of the Kliq wanted.

  • I thought they were both heels in this match up? Somebody said that

  • @atc1 It's a very long story and several things have been filmed/taped about it. Bret and Shawn didn't get along. Bret was leaving the company for legit financial reasons. Vince couldn't let him leave w/ the title, so he told him to drop it to Shawn. Bret refused to lose to the guy he hated in Canada, so Vince just said ok and then screwed him. Depending on how you see it, Vince screwed Bret or Bret screwed Bret. Either way, Shawn was an accomplice at best.

  • @JackKrouser I don't think immature is the appropriate word really given the context. I think it was just a conflict between two competing ideologies about the entire wrestling business. Bret was born into wrestling heritage, and totally steeped in its traditions. This is why some people criticise Hart for taking wrestling 'too seriously'. Conversely Michaels was an innovator of modern wrestling motifs. Vince should have trusted Bret to lose the belt at a later date, but Bret was too heated.

  • At 3.07 of the video you can see how visibly distressed, and pensive, Bret is. I never saw Hart, or Michaels for that matter, look so anxious in the buildup to a match before. Given what we know now it's understandable, but when I watched this as a kid on PPV I really had the sensation that I was watching a completely true sporting event. There was the same kind of nervousness before it begun, as you get in a big boxing match. Sad it ended as it did because it felt like a real fight

  • bret wouldn't drop the belt to shawn because he thout that shawn didn't respect him, but your right, bret was immature

  • @johnwtanneriv I thought Bret was told he was suppose to win this match, but behind the scenes Vince already knew Shawn would win...that's why it was called a screwjob...

  • Haha Shawn Michaels was too badass back then

  • @taytayswiftyfan327 Shawn didn't do anythng to Bret. Vince did. And, for that matter, Bret was the immature one. When you are a pro wrestler and you're told to drop a title, you drop it. Bret put Vince in a very bad situation so Vince put Bret in one
