  • I appreciate that someone is performing these old Hollaender songs in the U.S. and Ms. Leon is very talented. BUT I think her interpretation of this piece is off. This song was meant to be silly, campy and fun. It's about a woman who dreams of being sexy but isn't.

    Ms. Leon plays it like a sultry Dietrich. The idea that German performers were always dark and mysterious is an American interpretation. Germans might be reserved to us but cabaret performers were generally very expressive.
