13 September 2009 a glorious day spent bird watching on Cape Clear Island off the Co. Cork coast. The trip was organised by Birdwatch Ireland and Steve our guide showed us around the Island and pointed out the best places to see the migrating birds. He then did a ringing demonstration with Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler caught in the mist nets.

We saw around 50 species including hundreds of swallows, Kittiwakes, Razorbills, Chough, Peregrines, Wheatear, Spotted Flycatcher and we heard a Greenish Warbler in the garden behind the cottage which is famous for the variety of migrant and rare American vagrant birds that are seen there.

  • The boat on the first picture is the boat that goes from Schull to Cape not Baltimore :L

  • @theacleire Well I was leaving Baltimore heading for Cape Clear and it passed us coming in as we were leaving Baltimore harbour? That is why its the first photo on the slideshow. This video was taken almost 2 years ago, maybe it changed route?

  • @myjugsarehuge That's the Karycraft, it goes from Schull to Cape every summer. :D

  • @theacleire I don't doubt it but we were going out of Baltimore harbour in Sept 2009 and it passed us, maybe it was doing a u turn lol, I'm not making it up I've only been from Baltimore to Cape clear once so I do remember what I saw and in what order

  • @myjugsarehuge There is a massive Hill, you get no idea from the pictures here.At the bottom, and all over,I don't think they have M.O.T tests there, the cars looked like banger racers, real rust buckets, smoking wrecks. On the narrow roads though, those brakes had to work.A local told me,they are not the finest machines, but the brakes are powerfull enough to stop the Devil Himself!
