Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question...

Q: My improvisation ability feels like it has hit a plateau that I can't get it moving beyond. My scales are all memorized, but it feels like everything I'm playing is way too scale like. What can I do to stop everything I play from sounding like scales?
Josh -- Vancouver BC, Canada

A: What you're going through is a very common complaint of beginning improvisers. For any player experiencing this type of problem with scales, there is a simple solution! For example, keep this in mind; don't play more than 3 or 4 scale tones in the same direction. Instead, play in different directions. Also, try to create interval skips (both small & large) and do as many things to break up the scale effect as possible! Watch the full video to learn more.
