Must say, it does look a LOT like cave story, right down to the monster characteristics , the damaging info and the level shapes, that squid thigns attack looked liek the nemesis.
But if it is anything like cave story, I'm sure it will be fucking great cause i've been hanging out for a sequel or fan game.
I wish everybody would SHUT UP about Cave Story. And yes, this is coming from someone who loves the game enough to use its original title as their Youtube name.
The Underside =/= Cave Story. It's obviously inspired by CS, but then, a great many games are inspired by CS. I don't see why everyone sees TU as an insult against Pixel, when really it's more of a sweet compliment.
TU is amazing so far, and I love the demo, and I can't wait for the full version to come out. Thank you and good day.
Oh yeah. This is ALSO coming from someone who had serious doubts watching the vids and was pretty much ready to cry foul--until they actually played the damn game. It's good.
People should play this. This and Cave Story is kinda like comparing Final Fight to Streets of Rage. The game puts you in free exploration mode from the get-go, throws in some nifty new gadgets, and has it's own spin on the storytelling. It's too bad it doesn't hide where its inspiration is from, but it does actually try to stand on its own in a few ways. Props to Podunk.
Actually, while I was playing the demo I had more flashbacks of playing Blaster Master than Cave Story for some reason.
For real! I think it had to do with some of the level design, like some of the spike traps, plus the door-to-door style of free exploration. It's like when you pull from your experience of past games to help you play new ones, and in my case I kept thinking back to the Sunsoft days.
