The endgame of Gilg-Tartakover, Semmering 1926. Taken from position 138 in Levenfish & Smyslov's manual on Rook Endings.

Rook + 1 vs. Rook + 1 endgames require a special skill to master. This skill is accurately calculating the results of a variety of Rook vs. Pawn (and occasionally other) endgames. This actual game is an example of that.

  • great vid! now i know that i know nothing about chess, many thanks

  • Um, that was not rly the idea but thanks for watching

  • Great comment.

At 05:42, I would prefer the alternative -Kh6+ instead of -Ra1. After the forced Kh8, -Ra1 Kg8 Ra8+ is an easy win.

  • Thanks. Your line is slower but quite valid.
