@GVCatullo E poi, nel giudicare i risultati artistici raggiunti dal film "Il Gattopardo", bisogna tener presente che la fonte fornita da Tommasi di Lampedusa è un romanzo molto mediocre, mentre la novella di Camillo Boito è già in sé molto suggestiva.

True... I always thought the scenario of a troubled older woman with a cynical gigalo, and the final tragic ending had echoes of Billy Wilders "Sunset Boulevard.
And I also have this feeling that Tennessee Williams got the idea for "The Roman Spring" of Mrs. Stone" while writing the English dubbing for this film.

Giudico questo film molto superiore al GATTOPARDO: Visconti non ha del tutto capito il romanzo di Tomasi di Lampedusa (che, cmq, è un romanzo dle '900, quindi, privo di quell'estetismo ottocentesco), invece, è bello come è stata trasformata la novella di Camillo Boito: nella novella di Boito, per esempio, la contessa Livia (senza cognome) è molto cinica.

This movie should be much more remembered... Along with Death in Venice, The Leopard and Rocco and His Brothers, Visconti's best filme.
