Los Angeles, CA The Los Angeles Urban League has announced that Black Men of the Oscars® will be the
recipients of the top award at the Los Angeles Urban Leagues 36th Whitney M. Young, Jr. Awards Dinner which
will take place on Thursday, April 9th at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel. The Whitney M. Young Jr. Award will be
bestowed on the 19 African American men who have received Academy Awards from the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences including confirmed honorees: Quincy Jones, Sir Sidney Poitier, Lou Gossett Jr, Cuba
Gooding Jr., Willie Burton and Russell Williams.
In addition to their cinematic achievement, these phenomenal men have used their high profile status to uplift the
under served and those who cannot help themselves. For this they deserve recognition from their community. said
Blair H. Taylor, president of the League. The Los Angeles Urban League would like to capture this unprecedented
moment in time and honor this collective group of outstanding African American men.
The Los Angeles Urban League Young Professionals (LAULYP) will host a post awards reception honoring
Young Black Hollywood Stars featuring many specially invited celebrity guests. Taj Tashombe, President of the
LAULYP, says of the event, the post awards reception will recognize the contributions of Young Black Hollywood
entertainers of our generation and their continued commitment to social responsibility in the Los Angeles
Community.
