When snorkeling at night, I had paused to look at a hermit crab. Once I moved on, from out of nowhere a cow nose ray was heading directly for my lights. When I go back and look at this I notice that he was heading right for a minnow in the upper right corner of the screen. He came up so fast all of a sudden that it startled me and I jerked immediately. That startled him and he quickly turned around, away from the minnow, and headed into the rocks. Had I remained completely still he likely would have circled around me eating lots of minnows, providing some of the best underwater video I had ever shot. His wingspan was probably about 2 feet. This was shot on the night of June 6, 1998 on VHS-C.
